Dr. Mark DeGarmo
P.T., D.P.T., C.S.S.

INTRODUCTION: Mark is a native of Newark, Ohio.   After many years away from Newark he returned in 2004 to be near his family and continue his physical therapy career.   Mark has over 23 years' experience in the physical therapy field, which includes 6 ½ years in the US Navy as a hospital corpsman and physical therapy technician.   After serving in the US Navy, Mark enrolled at Shenandoah University and completed his Masters Degree in physical therapy in 1993.   In August of 2004, Mark obtained his Clinical Doctoral Degree in Physical Therapy (DPT).   Mark's background includes a strong belief in manual physical therapy, and restoring functional deficits for return to normal activities of daily living.   Mark is a primary therapist at the Newark clinic and enjoys working with a variety of people from student athletes to geriatric clients.

EXPERIENCES: Since graduation Mark has worked in a variety of physical therapy settings including:   acute care, home health, rehabilitation centers and outpatient clinics providing both burn/wound care clinics and diabetic foot care clinics.   He was instrumental in developing and instructing the Burn & Wound Care courses at Shenandoah University's Program in Physical Therapy for over seven years.   Mark developed and directed a wound and diabetic foot clinic for eight years while working in Virginia.   During his career he has strived for wellness and prevention of medical problems with all of his clients.   Over the past ten years Mark has been involved with numerous medical mission trips to Haiti and India.   In 2000, Mark was awarded with the Shenandoah University Alumni Association's Young Career Achievement Award for Health Professions.

FOR FUN: Camping, hiking, biking with his wife and two sons.   Mark also enjoys mountain biking, racquetball, gold and reading.
